چکیده

Motivated by the observed correlation between black hole masses Mbh and the velocity dispersion σ of host galaxies, we develop a theoretical model of black hole formation in galactic bulges (this paper generalizes an earlier ApJ Letter). The model assumes an initial state specified by a a uniform rotation rate Ω and a density distribution of the form ρ = aeff/2πGr 2 (so that aeff is an effective transport speed). The black hole mass is determined when the centrifugal radius of the collapse flow exceeds the capture radius of the central black hole (for Schwarzschild geometry). This model reproduces the observed correlation between the estimated black hole masses and the velocity dispersions of galactic bulges, i.e., Mbh ≈ 10M⊙(σ/200 km s−1)4, where σ = √ 2aeff . To obtain this normalization, the rotation rate Ω ≈ 2×1015 rad/s. The model also defines a bulge mass scale MB . If we identify the scale MB with the bulge mass, the model determines the ratio μB of black hole mass to the host mass: μB ≈ 0.0024 (σ/200 km s−1), again in reasonable agreement with observed values. In this scenario, supermassive black holes form quickly (in ∼ 105 yr) and are born rapidly rotating (with a/M ∼ 0.9). This paper also shows how these results depend on the assumed initial conditions; the most important quantity is the initial distribution of specific angular momentum in the pre-collapse state. Model for the M bh − σ Relation for Supermassive Black Holes in Galaxies

We construct a model for the formation of black holes within galactic bulges. The initial state is a slowly rotating isothermal sphere, characterized by effective transport speed aeff and rotation rate Ω. The black hole mass is determined when the centrifugal radius of the collapse flow exceeds the capture radius of the central black hole. This model reproduces the observed correlation between ...

The correlation between black hole mass and bulge velocity dispersion in hierarchical galaxy formation models

Recent work has demonstrated that there is a tight correlation between the mass of a black hole and the velocity dispersion of the bulge of its host galaxy. We show that the model of Kauffmann & Haehnelt, in which bulges and supermassive black holes both form during major mergers, produces a correlation between Mbh and σ with slope and scatter comparable to the observed relation. In the model, ...

Supermassive Black Holes in Galactic Bulges

Growing evidence indicate supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in a mass range of MBH∼ 10 6 − 10M⊙ lurking in central stellar bulges of galaxies. Extensive observations reveal fairly tight power laws of MBH versus the mean stellar velocity dispersion σ of the host stellar bulge. Together with evidence for correlations between MBH and other properties of host bulges, the dynamic evolution of a bulge...

Mass and Mean Velocity Dispersion Relations for Supermassive Black Holes in Galactic Bulges

Growing evidence indicate supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in the mass range of MBH∼ 106− 10M⊙ lurking in central bulges of many galaxies [1, 2]. Extensive observations reveal fairly tight power laws of MBH versus the mean stellar velocity dispersion σ of the host bulge [3, 4, 5]. The dynamic evolution of a bulge and the formation of a central SMBH should be physically linked by various observa...
